We worked with a mid-market private equity firm that was exploring an acquisition in automotive repair and maintenance.
The team had high level research that was informative but imprecise. The reports didn’t help differentiate regional differences or the true level of fragmentation in the market. They requested a bottom-up view that would enable them to properly assess the potential value of the target on a zip code by zip code basis.
We conducted a nationwide data harvesting exercise to build a database of active market players, large and small. As an added bonus, we layered in external weather and road condition information as a predictive measure of potential market revenue by geography.
Our work was instrumental in shaping the diligence process, target valuation, and ultimate decision not to pursue the opportunity.
